Fontaine-Daniel is a French village located in the department of Mayenne (53) and in the Pays de la Loire region. It is a working-class village born from the textile industry whose organization and architecture are remarkable.

The place called Fontaine-Daniel finds its origin in its topography, a wetland (Gaul ana) forming a clearing (Gaul ialos). In 1205, at the time of the foundation of a Cistercian abbey by the lord of Mayenne Juhel III, the place was called Fons Danielis, a toponym deriving from (fons) d'(ana-ialos) literally meaning "the source of the marsh of the clearing".
