ENGLISH BOXING
THE NOBLE ART

"Boxing" comes from the English "box", which means "blow". English boxing was long called the "noble art" because of the rules that were defined in the 19th century under the patronage of the British aristocracy, the idea being to differentiate gentlemen's boxing from unregulated street fights.

It is a combat sport in which two opponents, of the same weight category and sex, meet in a ring, wearing padded gloves, and exchange punches, aimed at the face and chest. The fight is divided into time intervals, the rounds, separated by a minute of rest announced by a bell where the boxer can receive advice and treatment if necessary.
